What a coating actually is

A glass-hard layer
that bonds to your clear coat.

A ceramic coating is a liquid silica (SiO2) polymer that cures into a hard, chemically bonded layer on top of the clear coat. Unlike wax or a spray sealant, it does not wash off. It gives you sharper gloss, strong water beading, resistance to road salt, bird droppings and wash chemicals, and a surface that releases dirt instead of holding it. It is not a force field: a coating will not stop rock chips. For that you want paint protection film, and the two work together.

  • Gyeon certified installer, applied in-studio under inspection lighting
  • Every coating starts with a full decontamination wash
  • Lifetime C6 package includes Level 1 paint correction
  • Registered on your vehicle's Carfax as documented protection

How we do it

Two days. Six steps. No shortcuts.

01

Inspection

We check the paint under inspection lighting, measure where it matters, and tell you honestly whether Level 1 or Level 2 correction is needed before the coating.

02

Decontamination

Foam, hand wash, iron-fallout remover and a clay treatment strip embedded brake dust, rail dust and bonded grime. A coating sealed over contamination fails early.

03

Paint correction

Machine polishing levels swirls and micro-marring so the coating locks in a defect-free finish. Included with C6, recommended with every tier.

04

Panel prep

A panel wipe removes every trace of polishing oil so the silica can bond directly to the clear coat.

05

Application

Applied panel by panel, flashed and leveled by hand. Glass, wheels and trim can be coated too.

06

Cure and hand-back

The coating cures in the studio, usually overnight. You get care instructions and a free rinseless wash guide so your first washes do not undo the work.

Why it matters here

Built for a Buffalo winter.

Western New York paint sees months of road salt, brine, slush and touchless car washes. Salt and brine etch an unprotected clear coat; wash chemicals strip wax in weeks. A ceramic coating gives the salt a hard, slick layer to sit on instead of your paint, and a rinseless or touchless wash takes it right off. Coat in fall and the car goes into winter protected; coat in spring and a correction first removes the damage winter left.

  • Salt and brine wipe off instead of etching
  • Snow and ice release easier from a hydrophobic surface
  • Survives touchless washes that strip wax
  • Pair with undercoating to protect what is underneath

Straight answers

Questions we get every week.

How much does ceramic coating cost in Buffalo, NY?
At Immaculate Detailing a Gyeon ceramic coating starts at $449.99 for the 1-year CanCoat on a Small vehicle, $849.99 for the 3-year Mohs EVO, and $1,699.99 for the lifetime C6 Hydro Nano Diamond, which includes a Level 1 paint correction. Prices step up by size class to a maximum of $1,999.99 for a Large vehicle on C6. See the full table above.
How long does a ceramic coating last?
It depends on the product and how the car is washed. CanCoat is rated for 1 year, Mohs EVO for 3 years, and C6 Hydro Nano Diamond is a permanent, one-time application with no annual re-coats. Proper washing (two-bucket or rinseless, no automatic brush washes) is what gets you the full rated life.
Is ceramic coating worth it with Buffalo winters and road salt?
Yes, and winter is the main reason local drivers coat. Salt, brine and slush etch unprotected clear coat and strip wax in a few weeks. A cured ceramic layer resists those chemicals and lets salt rinse off instead of bonding. It does not stop rock chips, so for the front end we recommend paint protection film with a coating on top.
Do I need paint correction before a ceramic coating?
Almost always. A coating locks in whatever is under it, including swirls and marring. The lifetime C6 package includes Level 1 correction; on CanCoat and Mohs EVO we recommend adding it, and bundle pricing is published on this page. A coating on uncorrected paint is still protected, it just will not look its best.
Ceramic coating vs. wax vs. PPF: which should I get?
Wax is a sacrificial layer that lasts weeks. A ceramic coating is a bonded, chemical-resistant layer that lasts years and makes the car easier to clean. Paint protection film is a thick urethane film that physically absorbs rock chips and scratches. For most daily drivers in Western New York: PPF on the front impact zones, ceramic over everything.
Can you coat a brand-new car or a lease?
New is the best time, before dealer prep and the first winter add damage. The coating is non-permanent in the sense that it can be polished off, so it is fine on a lease and makes the turn-in inspection easier. Work done here is registered on the vehicle's Carfax.
Where do you install ceramic coatings?
In our studio at 503 Erie St, Lancaster, NY 14086, about 15 minutes east of downtown Buffalo. We do not install coatings mobile; proper curing needs a clean, climate-stable bay and inspection lighting. Most clients come from Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Depew, Williamsville, Amherst, Clarence, Orchard Park and East Aurora.
